FAQs

Q?What causes data loss?
A.

Data loss happens for a number of reasons, and at virtually anytime and anywhere. No one factor can ever truly be overcome, which makes data loss a reality. It is not a matter of if, but rather a matter of when data loss will occur. As a result, businesses and home users alike cannot rely on hope as their strategy. Data may be recoverable with Remote Data Recovery service (recovery through modem or Internet connection) or even with data recovery software.

Q?How does data recovery happen?
A.

The data recovery process depends on the type of recovery necessary for your   particular situation. Our specialists begin with a diagnostic process to   determine which solution fits your needs and then you are contacted to discuss   your quote.

Q?What is the success rate of data recovery?
A.

The best data recovery companies will not lie about success rates. Any company telling you they have a rate of more than 80% is tricking you. Rates vary depending upon medium, and how you measure success. Our recovery success rate could be 78% to 98%, depending on the method used to figure out this success rate. For instance, our success rate would be extremely high if we excluded hard drive that arrived in our labs with absolutely no chance of recovery because of fire damage, or scored platters, but would advertising this rate be fair to you? It would be misleading, which is why we do not advertise our success rate.

Q?What is the data recovery confidentiality policy?
A.

At LMMultimedia, we understand that some of our work will involve access to information/records that are considered confidential. We acknowledges the responsibility to respect the confidentiality of our customers, to follow office procedures in order to protect privacy, and to act in a professional manner, both to the public and over the phone. No matter if you’re an individual user with some very private data documents and digital pictures or a financial institution with the highest concern about confidentiality and security, confidentiality should be a very important factor.

With LMMultimedia, you can rest assured that your information and data will be kept as secure and confidential as possible.

Q?Do you recover laptop hard drives?
A.

At LMMultimedia, we have pretty much seen it all when it comes to damaged laptop hard drives. What we can tell you is that nine times out of 10, your data can be recovered, no matter what your local computer repair shop claims.

We feel it is important to mention this because at least 20% of our hard drive recovery customers are people who have been told that their data cannot be recovered. That their hard drive has failed miserably and that there is simply no way they will be getting their data back. That they might as well accept the fact that their data is gone and that there is nothing that can be done about it.

This is almost never true.

If you feel like your laptop data is unrecoverable, we can tell you this: we have fully recovered laptop hard drives that have been:

  • run over by a vehicle
  • been immersed in water for over two hours
  • fallen from a 200 foot height
  • burned by a warehouse fire that melted the unit almost beyond recognition

So even if you assume that your laptop cannot be recovered, the likelihood of this is quite low. As long as you only deal with a company that uses a professional class 1000 clean room, and has an experienced data recovery staff, you should be able to have your data retrieved.

Q?What types of media can you recover data from?
A.

Often the data are being salvaged from storage media such as internal or external hard disk drives, solid-state drives (SSD), USB flash drive, storage tapes, CDs, DVDs, RAID, and other electronics.

Q?Is there anything I can do to recover my data?
A.

Users inexperienced in data recovery can cause more damage to their storage media when attempting to recover data themselves. If you are already in a data loss situation, contact us to discuss your options for safe data recovery.

Q?Can you recover data if I’ve had a virus attack?
A.

Most viruses attack files that the computer uses to function normally. A security breach can result in noticeable performance changes, random rebooting, adware, spyware and even missing files. The majority of these issues can be addressed with our Comprehensive Data Recovery Service. In the event the virus deletes or corrupts files, LMMultimedia is experienced in repairing this type of damage.
